Guwahati: Incessant rain for the last two days has brought Assam and its capital city Guwahati to a standstill and has also pushed the death toll to 42 as four lost their lives due to a landslide in the city on Tuesday.

As per the State Disaster Management Authority, several areas in Darrang, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Dima-Hasao, Goalpara, Kamrup (M), South Salmara, and Nalbari districts are affected.

Following the flood situation in the city, as many as 600 people have taken shelter in two relief camps that opened in Guwahati city due to heavy flash floods in multiple areas.

The weather has left no stone to unturn in deteriorating the situation further in the state and forcing the administration to shut down the educational institution.

Several reports claimed that the number of affected people has doubled in the last 24 hours and as per ASDMA, on Tuesday, there were some 8000 affected due to floods.

However, the state will witness the same in the coming days as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday predicted that the northeastern region will continue to receive heavy rainfall till June 17 and also issued a red alert for the state of Assam and Meghalaya.

Not only people but animals too have been affected by the floods in the South Salmara district and as per ASDMA including big and small, a total of 42887 animals have been affected.
