Guwahati Planetarium Gears up with New Shows

GUWAHATI: The Guwahati planetarium is going to complete a glorious 25 years this year and is all set to introduce new programmes. Planetarium introduced two new shows this year, the first one namely To Worlds Beyond and the second one namely Planets. Unlike every summer vacation, this year also the planetarium is getting immense response from the children, parents as well as the general public.

Speaking to The Sentinel, the Curator of the of the planetarium Babul Chandra Borah said, “Keeping in relation to the Silver Jubilee we’re trying to introduce something new to the audience and it is definitely helping towards to create a scientific temperament. Currently we’ve witnessed increasing response in comparison to earlier times.” Borah also said that people are well aware and concerned about giving their children a scientific attitude. He also told that the Science and Technology department is showing a good attitude towards the planetarium which is a good sign.

About the show’s, Borah said, “We’re covering various subjects like astronomical events, solar eclipse, and lunar eclipse and closest approach of planets. We’re always trying to bring newness. Hence the work of establishing an Astronomy Gallery is on process.”

The planetarium currently has 140 seat capacities per show and there are total six shows going on at 11 am, 12 am, 1 pm, 2 pm, 3 pm, and at 4 pm in a day in both Assamese and English language. However the shows remain closed on 1st and 15th day of every month.
