Guwahati: Police Car Hits Three Pedestrians; Driver Arrested

Guwahati: In a tragic incident, at least three people were injured after a driver of a police car, who was allegedly in an intoxicated state, lost control of his vehicle and ended up hitting all the three pedestrians in the Hatigaon area of Guwahati on Sunday night.

As per reports, the incident unraveled when a man and a young boy were moving towards Sijubari with a cart selling goods and a police vehicle was simultaneously coming in from the same side of the road.

Tragedy struck when the drunk driver rammed into both of them from behind.

The boy incurred minor injuries while the man sustained severe injuries and is in a critical condition and he has been admitted to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).

The driver fled from the spot with his car right after the collision took place. But, he was not yet done with his reckless driving and after going some distance, the rash driver ended up hitting a scooty rider, causing injuries to him.

It may be noted that the driver was driving the police vehicle of the Bhangagarh Police Station.

The drunk driver has been identified as Ramez Ali, who was later nabbed by the locals after which they handed him over to the police, who arrested him.

 A case has also been registered by the police against the drunk driver under various sections of the Motor Vehicles Act.
