Price of banana trees surges ahead of Diwali in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: The costs of banana plants have seen a massive increase ahead of the Festival of Lights, as the same is used for decorative purposes during the festival. Although the past is also needed for religious events, it hardly costs Rs 100 during the rest of the year, but during this festive season, the prices have shot up to Rs 300 to Rs 350 per plant on Saturday, with the chances of further increase on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has already requested that the citizens properly dispose of these plants after the celebration and even issued a helpline number for the same.
