GUWAHATI: The marketing manager of Guwahati Refinery was arrested on Wednesday for emailing a letter to the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) authorities under a fake name.

Birendra Kumar Jha, the marketing manager of Guwahati Refinery, had allegedly sent an email to the IOCL authorities under the fake name of a woman. In the email, he had alleged corruption and malpractices in Guwahati Refinery. After receiving the email, the IOCL authorities directed the Guwahati Refinery authorities to probe the matter.

Following this, the Chief General Manager of Guwahati Refinery lodged an FIR at Noonmati Police Station on June 3, 2022. A case was registered 265/2022 u/s 417/419/190/506 IPC and r/w Section 66 (D) IT Act. Upon preliminary investigation, the police found out that the mobile phone number from which the email was sent, was registered in the name of Jha.

Jha was arrested on Wednesday from the Refinery premises and today he was remanded to judicial custody.
