The state has had witnessed a massive surge in new coronavirus cases in such a short span of a few days that it has become a matter of grave concern for the people of Assam. The positivity rate of the new covid 19 cases reported in the last few days stands as 0.48 per cent. Out of the 73,329 tests conducted across the state, Guwahati reported the highest number of cases at 186, followed by Dibrugarh at 23, Nagaon at 18, and Tinsukia at 17.
Meanwhile, Kamrup (Rural) Deputy Commissioner Kailash Karthik had tested positive for Covid 19. Mr. Karthik fell ill after the third phase of Assam Assembly elections and after being tested was found to be infected with the virus. He is currently under home isolation.
After the massive spike of Covid 19 reported from across the state, the government of Assam responded as a precautionary measure by imposing Section 144 in several districts such as Lakhimpur, Dhubri, Jorhat, Biswanath, Sivasagar in an effort to contain the spread of this deadly virus.
India, as of Sunday, reported 1,68,912 fresh cases of Covid 19 overnight, which is by far the record highest number of cases reported in a single day. This data was obtained from the reports of the health ministry of India. India has overtaken Brazil to become the second country to be worst affected by coronavirus. This single-day highest spike of coronavirus cases has taken the total tally of cases up to an alarming 1,35,27,717.
It is also worth noting that India becomes the fastest country in the world to have administered more than 100 million Covid vaccine shots in 85 days.
Since we have been severely affected by the second wave of Covid 19, it is in our hands to prevent the spread of this deadly virus by taking collective action as a society. Covid 19 protocols must be uncompromisingly adhered to and we must cooperate with our front line Covid 19 health workers who are relentless in their fight against the spread of this deadly disease from affecting more lives.
