Gyan Academy demands admission fees amid lockdown in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: As the government has ordered schools to remain shut due to the corona pandemic, Gyan Academy in Jyoti Kuchi near Odalbakra Out Post, is asking parents to pay the admission fees for the upcoming sessions. According to allegations, the school authorities called the parents of the students and asked them to submit the admission fees by visiting the school's premises. The parents stated that the school is going against the government's order and it is not possible for them to gather the amount amid the lockdown.

It is to be mentioned that the government has allowed a staggered exemption for a few sectors but all schools would continue to remain closed until further instructions.

In this regard, principal of the school Mrityunjoy Shukla stated that they have received a notification from the government to collect 50 per cent fees for the month of April. The notification stated not to increase the fees of the school and also to give full salaries to the employees, said Shukla. "Only three directives were written on the notice and it didn't mention restriction on the submission of admission fees," he asserted.

Talking to The Sentinel, an official from the Secondary Education Department stated that all the schools are closed and demanding admission fees by the school authorities at this point of time is not allowed. "We have received complaints about the Gyan Academy and we will necessary actions in this regard. No school should go against the government's order," the official added.
