GUWAHATI: The Gauhati High Court has sought information on the status of major development works undertaken in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) since its constitution on February 10, 2003, and the recruitments made on the subjects for which the BTC was given absolute authority.

During a hearing in the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by the Bodo Writers Academy and others, the division bench of Chief Justice Sandeep Mehta and Justice Arun Dev Choudhury, the court stated that the BTC was constituted after being granted autonomy in pursuance of the Accord dated 10.02.2003. As a period of nearly 20 years has passed since the constitution of the BTC, the court felt that it would be appropriate to seek information on the above mentioned issues.

The court directed the petitioners and respondents, including the Union of India, Assam Government, BTC and others to file their respective affidavits on the above-mentioned aspects. The next hearing in the case will be on June 22.
