GUWAHATI: In yet another success in the war against drugs, five drug peddlers were nabbed with 500 gm of heroin, worth around Rs 4 crore, from near the Bodoland Guest House at Khanapara here on Monday.

The arrested drug suppliers are all from Lilong in Manipur, police sources said. They have been identified as Ataur Rahman, Abdul Motleb, Munir Ahmed, Azmal Khan and Salil Khan.

The operation was carried out by a special squad of the Guwahati and Kamrup police under the leadership of Joint Commissioner of Police (JCP), Guwahati, Partha Sarathi Mahanta.

According to JCP Mahanta, the mode of transportation is being constantly changed by the criminals due to pressure from the police. In the latest case, the heroin was kept hidden inside rice bags that were loaded on a Bolero vehicle (As-01 EG 7897) which had arrived in Guwahati from Imphal en route to West Bengal.
