Hey Guwahatians! Are you being overcharged at Vehicle Pollution Testing Units?

Guwahati: At a time when the Guwahatians are busy in getting their pollution certificates ready at various corners in the city soon after the introduction of amended Motors Vehicle Act, there are reports surfacing the media that certain vehicle pollution testing units in the city are allegedly overcharging from the fixed amount Rs 85.

As per a report, a pollution testing unit in Bamunimaidan allegedly charged Rs 500 from a two-wheeler owner, thus, leading to a chaotic situation in the area on Wednesday afternoon.

The matter came to light after a local city-based journalist was allegedly misbehaved by one of the employees at the pollution testing unit while questioning about the matter.

It may also be mentioned that DTO collects a minimum fine of Rs 100 from vehicle owners for not obtaining pollution certificates after six months of their vehicle registration, however, the matter here seems a little suspicious.

Meanwhile, speaking to The Sentinel-News, a DTO official, Arun Bora informed that a complaint was reported on the same day of the incident; hence, District Transport Office has directed Motor Vehicle Inspector to investigate the matter.

Further investigations are on.
