GUWAHATI: The Higher Education Department of the Government of Assam has announced a revised uniform fee structure for the higher secondary students as well those for the undergraduate courses of the state. They added that this fee structure will be implemented across colleges and universities across the state.

According to the announcement, the students of the Higher Secondary course from the Arts and Commerce streams will have to pay Rs 3150, while those from the Science stream will have to pay Rs 3330. The total fee has been divided into a total of nine heads including council fees, establishment, laboratory, electricity, library, contingency, development, continuous evaluation and student-related fees. Similarly, for the undergraduate courses, the fees without practicals are Rs 4060 and with practicals are Rs 4960. However, the Assam government had announced earlier that the fee waiver for the students from the economically weaker sections will be continued for this year.

In compliance with the timeline issued by the authorities, the first merit list was published on 11 July and it was published across the notice boards, and institutional web portals as well as the Samarth portal. Only the applicants who have registered and completed form submission through Assam State Higher Education Admission Portal and who have selected at least one programme will be eligible for admissions.

Admission will remain open all days for the specified duration, and no selected candidate whose name is published in the Merit list will be denied admission if they turn up on any of the specified dates of that merit list, subject to the authenticity and validity of documents presented for admissions. The Merit List is to be prepared strictly based on the seats allotted by the affiliating University.

Admission can be simultaneously conducted for different programmes for which necessary programme user credentials have been given to the colleges and universities and no waiting list will be published for admission. Only a Merit List with a specific seat quota, as approved by the concerned affiliating University will be published. Seats remaining vacant after the first round of admission will be made available for candidates from the second merit list to be released on 15th July, and a third merit list will be prepared for seats left out from the second round of admission will be released on 20th July.

Seats remaining vacant after the third round of admission will be filled by spot admission on 23, 24 and 25 July 2023.

Any applicant who did not apply during the application period from 14 June to 3 July 2023 will get an option to apply afresh in one of 10 programmes, but only programmes or Institutions with vacant seats will be reflected during the second application drive from 20th July 2023 to 22nd July 2023. All applications during the second Admission drive will be filled and processed through the Assam Higher Education Admission portal only. All Institutions have asked to strictly refrain from provisioning applications and admissions through their institutional portals.

Candidates who do not take admission within the specified days in a particular round will not be considered for the subsequent merit list. For grant of admission under the Fee Waiver scheme, mandatory uploading of a Family Income Certificate issued by a competent authority is necessary. The Income certificate may be uploaded by the applicant in the applicant portal on the day of admission. Admitted candidates list will be updated by the colleges/universities on the Samarth portal immediately after admission is granted to a student. Colleges are not allowed to change the students' choices in either 'Major' or 'Minor', during spot admission without prior written consent of the students. The application ID will be a provisional roll number for admitted students.

A link to generate roll numbers on the Samarth platform will be activated for the Colleges after the admission process is closed. There is no platform fee charged for admissions through Samarth E-Gov portal. Therefore, except the approved admission fee, no other fee will be levied by the College/university for admission. Colleges can generate student ID Cards on the portal following procedures after the admission process is closed.
