GUWAHATI: The All Assam Koch Rajbongshi Sanmilani has demanded the government to hold talks with the Kamtapur Liberation Organization (KLO) soon.

An executive body meeting of the All Assam Koch Rajbongshi Sanmilani was held on Sunday in the city. Various resolutions were adopted in this meeting. The All Assam Koch Rajbongshi Sanmilani thanked the Himanta Biswa Sarma-led State Government for forming the Kamatapur Autonomous Council and urged the government to release requisite funds to the council for the all-round development of the Koch Rajbongshi community.

Himu Rajbongshi, general secretary of the All Assam Koch Rajbongshi Sanmilani, said, "We also urge both the State and Central governments to take steps for granting Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to the Koch Rajbongshi community."

The All Assam Koch Rajbongshi Sanmilani welcomed the government's move to invite the KLO for talks. "For the sake of peace and development of the community, the government must hold talks with the KLO soon," said Rajbongshi.

The Sanmilani termed the formation of the Koch Rajbongshi Development Council as a mere "gimmick" and demanded that a new committee of the development council must be formed. The Sanmilani adopted another resolution to form a satellite autonomous council for Koch Rajbongshis living out the jurisdiction area of the Kamatapur Autonomous Council and to demand that the land rights of the Koch Rajbongshi community must be secured.
