GUWAHATI: The Asom Satra Mahasabha (ASM) has welcomed the NDA's (National Democratic Alliance) decision to make Himanta Biswa Sarma the Chief Minister designate of NDA.

The Sadou Asom Devalaya Sangha, in separate press statement, has also welcomed the decision of NDA.

The Asom Satra Mahasabha has also urged Sarma to free the lands of xatras, reserve forests and char-sapori areas across the State from encroachment.

Pointing out that "more than 7,000 bighas of xatra land across the State are being encroached upon by Bengal-origin Muslims", Asom Satra Mahasabha president Kusum Kumar Mahanta added that "lakhs of acres of reserve forests and char-sapori (riverine) areas are also being occupied by people of doubtful citizenship in the State."

Mahanta added in a press statement, "We hope that the next State government led by Himanta Biswa Sarma will propel the State to newer heights and also ensure protection of the people from all dangers."

Congratulations pour in: Congratulations have poured in from various quarters for NDA's Chief Minister designate Himanta Biswa Sarma. Among the organizations are the AIUDF (All India United Democratic Front) and the AJP (Assam Jatiya Parishad).

AIUDF president Badruddin Ajmal said, "We are sure that Himanta Biswa Sarma will be able to guide the State during this complex period of the pandemic."

AJP president Lurinjyoti Gogoi and party general secretary Jagadish Bhuyan said in a joint press release, "The new State government will have to tackle a number of challenges. We will play the role of alert Opposition."

Besides in separate press statements, the ASPTA (Assam State Primary Teachers' Association) and the 'Assam High School Retired Teachers & Employees Association (Newly Provincialised)' have also congratulated the Chief Minister designate, Himanta Biswa Sarma.
