GUWAHATI: The Guwahati Police as well as the Assam Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has solved the mystery of the brutal murder of the elderly couple in the Beltola area.
On Tuesday night, Noni Gopal Barua (87) and his wife Mina Barua (76) were brutally murdered in their residence in the Chandan Nagar area. The investigating police arrested four persons in connection to the incident.
Among the accused one is the caretaker of the elderly couple who has been identified as Akash Choudhury.
According to the Guwahati city Police Commissioner, Harmeet Singh, Akash was the prime culprit of the dual murders. The four accused staged a drama to mislead the police after murdering the couple in cold blood.
"Akash himself opened the grill from inside and not from outside. We have not found any broken door or window of the house. Further investigation is going on. Forensic experts found only fingerprints of Akash at the windows and grills. He is the main culprit", Singh added.
"We have checked every door, window and ventilator and found no forced entry from outside," Singh added.
The accused have entered the house by using a key of the backdoor entry.
He also said that they have done a scientific investigation into the dual murder and no culprit could save himself in such an investigation" he said, "The CID and forensic experts have collected evidence against Akash."
The police commissioner hinted that it was a pre-planned murder.
On the other hand, the court of the chief judicial magistrate (CJM) Kamrup metro has remanded prime accused Akash Choudhury to seven-day police custody on Wednesday.
