GUWAHATI: We use our phones regularly, whether it’s answering a call, checking messages or reading up on the latest news. And studies have found the coronavirus may be able to survive on the surface of phones for many days. Any germ that makes its way onto your phone or case could transfer to your skin, too.

Washing your hands the right way can help keep you and your loved ones from transmitting the virus, but what about cleaning your phone? The good news is that disinfecting your electronic device has officially become easier.

Talking to the Sentinel, a city-based microbiologist stated phones can be sanitized by using rectified spirits, which can be easily found in pharmacies. Rectified spirit has 70 per cent alcohol content; thus, a good wipe with it is the best way to disinfect your phone. However, cleaning your phone improperly can damage it. You want to avoid getting moisture inside it or scratching the surface. A piece of cotton is ideal to execute the disinfecting process. The microbiologist added that hand sanitizers with higher concentration of alcohol are also suitable to sanitize your phone. “Due to close contact phones are susceptible to the virus. During these times it is necessary to avoid sharing our phones with others for everyone’s safety”, the microbiologist added.
