GUWAHATI: With an aim to boost the entrepreneurial ecosystem for developing and imparting skills in the Beauty and Wellness Industry in the North Eastern Region (NER) and to develop the "Centre of Excellence" the Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE), Guwahati, today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Beauty and Wellness Sector Skill Council (B&WSSC) at IIE campus.

Dr Lalit Sharma, Director IIE and Monica Bahl, Chief Executive Officer B&WSSC signed the MoU in the presence of the guest of honour Santanu Mitra, senior economic advisor, Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Government of India, Dr Madhumita Saikia, Governing Council Member, B&WSSC, Ankita Kushwaha, General Manager, B&WSSC and Prasanta Goswami, Associate Faculty Member, IIE.

The collaboration will provide better avenues to trainees, advanced training facilities, and upgraded infrastructure required for skilling to empower and skill youths of NER. The establishment of the Centre of Excellence will create opportunities for the youths to get skilled and certified in the domain and become financially independent. The aim is to skill the youths of NER, encourage entrepreneurship and create awareness about the opportunities associated with the beauty sector. The collaboration will also focus to create gender inclusivity in skilling through B&WSSC, as the job roles under this sector are open for all genders' skilling and empowerment.

Centre of Excellence will provide leadership, best practices, research, support, training of trainers and skill training for specific sectors where the highest standards are maintained. Centre of Excellence in the skilling ecosystem is envisioned to be a one-stop resource centre, established/working in partnership with industry to raise training standards, boost productivity, address emerging skill gaps and align training and research with industry needs.

Santanu Mitra, senior economic advisor, Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Government of India and guest of honour of today's ceremony said, "Youths of the NER should come forward to avail such an opportunity to and become financially independent."

Dr Lalit Sharma, Director IIE, after signing the MoU, said, "IIE has been providing quality training on job roles under B&WSSC and empowered the targeted group through skilling to become self-reliant. The trainees after completion of training got the opportunity to generate income through entrepreneurship and employment."

He also said, "IIE has a full-fledged incubation for job roles under B&WSSC in its premise and has implemented a quality training programme. The Institute has all the facilities and infrastructure to meet the guidelines of the "Centre of Excellence" given by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), a press release said.
