GUWAHATI: Acting on tipoff, a team of EIB (Excise Intelligence Bureau) on Thursday seized IMFL (Indian-made foreign liquor) and beer worth lakhs at Jorabat under Dispur Police Station in the night of Friday.
The EIB team led by Deputy Superintendent of Excise (DSE), K.P. Das recovered the items from a truck (NL 01 K-4308) that they had intercepted. The vehicle driver did not have any valid documents for transporting the seized consignments.
On checking the vehicle on Saturday, the personnel recovered 45 cases of IMFL and 100 cases of beer (for sale in Meghalaya). The items were concealed under bags containing onions and cold drinks at the back of the truck. The vehicle carrying the consignment of liquor was coming from Meghalaya and was heading towards Manipur, confessed the driver before the interrogating officers. The driver and the helper have been arrested and the vehicle along with the loaded IMFL and beer have been seized and handed over to Inspector of Excise, Zone -A, Guwahati Sadar.
