Impersonator arrested by CID for blackmailing girl in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: A person identified as Sadique Ali was arrested by the CID on Thursday for impersonating a fictitious character named Rahul Sharma and blackmailing a girl after carrying on a sexual relationship with her based on the false identity.

It should be mentioned that a case was filed with the cyber cell of the CID police station on October 9, 2023, vide case no 04/2023 on the allegation that the accused, Sadique Ali, son of Suleman Ali of Choudhury Pam under Chaygaon police station in Kamrup district, introduced himself as Rahul Sharma and in the pretext of marrying established sexual relationships with the complainant several times, according to a source.

After the girl got to know his actual identity, she tried to quit the relationship, but the accused started threatening her and used social media to post her obscene photos, which she started sending them to other people.

Following this, the complainant filed the case, and it was registered under sections 376/294/419/379/201/427/506 of the IPC, read with Section 66D/67A of the IT Act.

The cyber cell carried out an investigation, and using the tools and techniques of cyber forensics, the accused was arrested at the railway station in the Panbazar area on Thursday afternoon. He was subsequently brought to the CID police station for further necessary action, the source said.
