Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE) organizes exhibitions on Partition Horror Remembrance Day

GUWAHATI: Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE), an organization under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India, is organizing a five-day (10-14 August) exhibition titled "Partition Horror Remembrance Day" at its campus to highlight the agony of partition as a part of the celebration of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav on the occasion of 75 years of India's Independence. A series of lectures are also being organized to mark the occasion.

The exhibition was inaugurated by veteran journalist and Chief Guest of the event Dhirendra Nath Chakravarty in the presence of Dr Lalit Sharma, Director-IIE, senior faculties and officials of IIE and guests.

Speaking to the gathering, Chakravarty said that India achieved Independence on 15 August 1947 after the gruelling agony of British rule. The patriotic Indian citizens fought against the British in a non-violent manner under the great leadership of Mahatma Gandhi. But it was unfortunate that under the leadership of Mohammed Ali Jinnah a blatant demand for a separate state of Pakistan was raised and thus a partition of India and Pakistan happened. Lots of bloodsheds took place. The agony of partition continues to exist in the mind of the people of India, he said.

Veteran journalist and State Information Commissioner, Assam, Samudra Gupta Kashyap joined the event on the second day as the guest of honour and gave an overview of the participation of people of the north-eastern region in the anti-colonial movement, and specifically mentioned the great patriots who had laid down their lives for throwing off foreign yoke and restoring the sanctity of this land. Kashyap particularly referred to the role and sacrifices of Maniram Dewan, Khamti chief Ranuwa Gohain @ Chow Pha Plung Lu Gohain, the 185 unidentified mutineers killed in Cachar in 1857, Dimasa hero Sambhudhan Phonglo, U Tirot Sing and Pa Togan Sangma of Meghalaya, the heroes of the Anglo-Manipuri War of 1891, and the unidentified brave warriors of the Naga Hills and Lushai Hills -- who had all embraced death while defending their motherland against the British aggression.

While addressing the gathering on the occasion Dr Lalit Sharma Director-IIE spoke at length on India's freedom struggle and the purpose of organizing such an exhibition to realize and feel the contribution of our great leaders who sacrificed their lives to attain the country's independence from the British rule. The footfall at the exhibition was very remarkable with the presence of students, senior citizens, people from the nearby localities, and officials from various government and private institutions thus bringing a patriotic ambience to the event, a press release said.
