GUWAHATI: Manobendra Chakraborty, President of JACRU, Nagaon & Cachar Paper Mills has alleged that MP Dr Rajdeep Roy in his recent speech in the parliament avoided several key issues on the revival of the HPC mills.

In a statement, Chakra-borty alleged, "While voicing for revival of HPC Paper Mills, Roy deliberately avoided the alleged scam of Rs 4,141 crore which was invested in HPC Paper Mill during 2014-2015 to 2018-2019." "Through an open call we have demand to dig out Rs 4,141Crore investment that were in the name of HPC revival has become traceless while both the industries made inoperative. During the same period 70 workers died and three of them committed suicide under compelling circumstances due to nonpayment of salary/ statutory dues since last 45 months," Chakraborty added.

Further, he alleged that while the body is struggling since long and the case is under adjudication before Delhi High Court, Roy wrongly submitted to pay dues of workers in installments which is highly objectionable.

"We would have been grateful to Rajdeep Roy, if the issue related to investment of Rs 4,141 crore on his speech which was missing might be purposefully to avoid and hide the issue," Chakraborty opined.

"Roy has accepted that revival of HPC Paper Mill was their election commitment which has been denied after winning the election. Hopefully, it will not be an election promise again and this time the commitment will really be fulfilled," he asserted.
