GUWAHATI: Assam Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi presented the Tirthanath Sarma- Nirmala Devi award to eminent litterateur and scholar Prof. Nagen Saikia at a function held at BKB Auditorium, Gauhati University here on Wednesday.
Speaking at the function Prof. Mukhi said that function itself is a noble occasion organised to pay tributes to the literary genius Pandit Tirthanath Sarma and his wife who had immensely contributed to the enrichment of Assam’s literary and academic contour.
He also said that the works of Pandit Tirthanath Sarma, who was a well-known scholar and litterateur of Assamcon, tributed immensely to take the graph of academic development of Assam to a new height. Tirthanath Sarma was also elected as the President of Axam Xahitya Xabha for its 38th annual conference and left behind a lasting impression on the working of the State's apex literary body. Late Nirmala Devi was the wife Pandit Tirthanath Sarma who strongly cooperated in the literary endeavour of her husband by being his shadow, stated a press release.
