GUWAHATI: National leaders of Janata Dal (United) (JD-U) have started to come to the State for campaigning in favour of their candidates in the Assam Legislative Assembly poll.
An MP of the party, Ramprit Mandal, addressed election rallies at a number of places in the State on Tuesday. In Guwahati in an interaction with the media later in the day, Mandal said, "For the interest of development in Assam like Bihar, we've fielded 40 candidates in various constituencies in Assam. We've got positive response from the people of Assam." When asked on the CAA (Citizenship Amendment Bill in the State, Mandal said, "We'll toe the line of the people of Assam on this issue." State JD-U president David Rongpi said, "We're hopeful of winning 28 seats in this Assembly election in the State."
