Jobs to 1 lakh Unemployed Assam Youths: Pratibandhi Suraksha Sangstha Assam Demands 4% Reservation for Divyangjans

GUWAHATI: Jobs to 1 lakh Unemployed Assam Youths: The Pratibandhi Suraksha Sangstha, Assam (PSSA) has welcomed the Assam government's announcement to provide one lakh jobs to unemployed youths of the State. PSSA secretary Nripen Malakar has underlined that while initiating the appointment process, the government should keep in mind reserving 4% seats for the Divyangjans by following the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016.

"According to Section 34 of the Act, the government should reserve four per cent seats for persons with disabilities (PWDs). However, the Assam government is not following the same. Due to which thousands of seats reserved for the PWDs are lying as backlog vacancies as per government data," said Malakar.

In this regard, the PSSA has submitted memoranda to the Chief Minister, Social Welfare Minister and Education Minister urging them not to 'deprive' the PWD candidates from four per cent reservation in the new appointment process.

"We hope that like previous years, the PWD candidates are not deprived of their four per cent reservation right," Malakar stressed.

Referring to the State government's 2017 data, the PSSA pointed out that 4,419 posts were lying vacant which were reserved for the PWDs in various departments. "These posts were not filled due to the government's lack of concern," said Malakar.

The body stressed that if the government is determined to provide one lakh jobs then, apart from the backlog vacancies, as many as 4,000 posts should be reserved for the PWDs. Among other demands of the PSSA include — special TET for the PWDs, a rest house in Guwahati, and a hike in monthly pension from Rs 1,000 to Rs 3,000.
