GUWAHATI: The Ambubachi Mahayog began on Monday; however; this year the Kamakhya Devalaya wore a deserted look as entry of people was prohibited in view of the alarming situation due to COVID 19 pandemic.
The Ambubachi Prabritti started on Monday morning at 7:53 am and the timing of Nibrittti is on Thursday at 8:16 pm. Every year the temple premises is filled with pilgrims and devotees from across the country but this year it will wear a deserted look.
The priests of the Devalaya have performed the rituals as usual to observe the annual menstrual cycle of Maa Kamkhya.
Security personnel of the administration and temple workers stood on the road leading to the temple so as to send back the devotees who were coming to the Devalaya. Most of them were unaware of the matter that the Devalaya managing committee has decided not to allow any people to enter the temple.
The priests of Maa Kamakhya Devalaya said in unison that the decision of not allowing devotees during Ambubachi Mahayog has been taken by thinking of the well being of people during the pandemic, as mass gathering is the most crucial reason behind the infection of the coronavirus.
One of the priests said, "Rituals will be followed as earlier. We appeal the devotees of across the country to pray from their places."
