GUWAHATI: Kamrup (M) Deputy Commissioner Biswajit Pegu has asked all departments and agencies in the district to constitute their respective RAF (Rapid Action Force) to combat coronavirus.

The Deputy Commissioner held a meeting in this regard in his office chamber here on Saturday. Top officials from the police force, Zila parishads, Health, Education, Social Welfare, Food and Civil Supplies, Transportation, Tourism, Inland Water Transport, GMC, NF Railway, NDRF, Airport Authority of India, SDRF, and others took part at the meeting.

DC Pegu spelled out as to what has to be done by each of the departments to combat the virus. He directed them to hold discussions with hotels, cinema halls, shopping malls, etc and take measures to prevent coronavirus infection. He also asked all the Circle officers to identify temporary shelter places that can be converted to temporary hospitals as and when the need arises.

The DC has also asked the CEOs of Zila Parishads to coordinate with all gaon panchayats for awareness generation and sensitization of the public.

The DC has asked the DTOs (District Transport Officers) to maintain strict surveillance of all passengers at the ISBT and Paltan Bazar, which constitute screening areas of the passengers with the help of the Joint Director of Health Services and conduct meetings with all the transport associations for sensitization on the issue.

The Deputy Commissioner has requested the Commissioner of Police, Guwahati to ensure strict surveillance and screening of tourists and travelers coming from different parts of the country and abroad in airports, railway stations, and bus terminals and create a database of the same and coordinate with district administration from time to time. He also requested the Police Commissioner to depute manpower in the district emergency operation center to be designated as a nodal control room for the global pandemic.

He has also asked the Police Commissioner to use all police and battalion hospitals for quarantine and provide necessary security in all quarantine zones.

Pegu has asked the GMC Commissioner to ensure cleanliness in all market areas, conduct awareness generation and sensitization in all public areas.
