Kin of murdered teenage girl held by Guwahati Police

GUWAHATI: In a major breakthough in the dastardly murder of Dimple Kumawat — a minor girl of Class-VII of a city school — in Uzan Bazar on Wednesday, Guwahati Police arrested a kin (cousin) from her mother's side on Thursday. Mentionably, he along with two other suspects were interrogated in Latasil Police Station since Wednesday.

The case (303/21 u/s 302 IPC) is being investigated by expert teams of the Central DCP (Deputy Commissioner of Police), the Women's Cell of ACP (Assistant Commissioner of Police) and the CGPD (Central Guwahati Police District)

The murder accused has been identified as Abhisekh Gupta alias Asik. In the course of interrogation, the accused admitted that he had killed the girl — who was his cousin — due to an "altercation".

The Police has also recovered the mobile phone and the SIM card (partially destructed) of Dimple, which he had hidden after the murder. The accused himself led the Police to recover the phone and SIM card, added Police sources.

Asik was with the family for the last one month. He used to fetch the breakfast for Dimple from her parents' fast-food joint in the area. However on Wednesday, he did not perform this task.

Instead, he committed the dastardly act on his cousin, and then proceeded to the house of friend of Dimple. From there, he spoke with one of his friends over the mobile of Dimple's friend. Eyewitness accounts revealed that Asik and his friend talked for some time on the street in the area. It has been further revealed that the murder accused also concealed the mobile phone of Dimple in the house of another friend of his in the same locality. Finally he reported to the police that his cousin had been murdered.

Interestingly enough, much before that Dimple's father had called her in her mobile phone on at around 10:30 on Wednesday morning. Receiving the call, Asik replied that Dimple was in the bathroom.
