GUWAHATI: The Koch Rajbongshi National Convention expressed their unhappiness regarding the recently published constituency delimitation draft, demanding that Scheduled Tribe status be granted to the community before implementing the same. General Secretary Biswajit Rai demanded that the legislative assembly as well as Lok Sabha constituencies be reserved for the community and the removal of Koch Rajbongshi village from the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).
In a statement from the organisation, the general secretary expressed support for the delimitation process by the Election Commission but demanded that they be granted the status of Scheduled Tribe (Plains) before it is implemented. Biswajit Rai also demanded that the Golakganj, Gauripur, Bilasipara, Baukhunguri, Parbatjara, Abhayapuri, Manikpur, Bongaigaon, and Bijni legislative assembly constituencies and the Barpeta or Dhubri Lok Sabha constituency be reserved for ST. He also alleged that due research has not been done about the matter of political representation of the Koch Rajbongshi people of the state.
He also demanded that, before the delimitation process, the Koch Rajbongshi majority villages on the edge of the BTR be removed from the BTR. And mentioned that the removal of the historical Sorbhog constituency is very unfortunate.
