KSUP alleges prevalence of corruption at Sonar Haat

GUWAHATI, Sept 19: The Krishak Sramik Unnayan Parishad (KSUP), Assam on Wednesday alleged that rampant corruption has been crippling the Sonar Haat Check Gate located at Golokganj in Dhubri district.

In a release, KSUP president Pradip Kalita alleged that more than 100 of trucks loaded with stone, sand and timber has been crossing through Sonar Haat check post to Bangladesh. Alleging that a sum of Rs 5 to 10 lakh has been usually collected in a day from these illegal export, Kalita said, “A portion of the collection has been shared to the Dhubri district police, forest officials, leaders of the district BJP and even to the MLAs and Ministers of the State.” Stating that Dispur has been turning down their memorandum submitted earlier in this regard, Kalita further argued that due to the apathy of the departments concerned, the State has been losing revenue of Rs 10 lakh per day. “Dispur should showcase their true spirit to streamline rampant corruption in real life instead of simply confining it in flowery slogans,” Kalita added.
