Land rights of Gorkhas need protection: Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangha

GUWAHATI: The Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangha (BGP) on Wednesday said that its 20th national council meet resolved that Gorkhas in Assam should be recognized as an indigenous Community of the State to protect their constitutional and land rights. Addressing the press at Dispur Press Club on Wednesday the Council called on the Government of India and the Government of West Bengal to bring a permanent solution to the long-pending demand of Gorkhaland. The BGP, Assam State president Prakash Dahal said that Gorkhas oppose the CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) and it wants the indigenous Assamese and Indian identity to be intact. He said, “The 20th National Council Meet held in Guwahati on 15th and 16th February 2020 resolved that Gorkhas are Indian indigenous community and since we don’t have a homeland in India and must be recognized as such across the country so that constitutional rights, including land rights of Gorkhas are protected everywhere.”
