GUWAHATI: The Director General of Police (DGP) for Assam, Gyanendra Pratap Singh, claimed on Saturday that the improvement in the law and order situation in the state has made way for the withdrawal of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) from 28 out of 35 districts in the state.

He also mentioned that, under the supervision of the chief minister of Assam and with the support of the people of Assam, the police department has been able to conduct recruitment in a transparent and fair manner. It has also been able to conduct improved training programmes and capacity building.

He also mentioned that the improved situation has also led to a decline in the number of Central Armed Police Force troops deployed in the state, which now stands at 73 compared to 210 a few years ago.
