GUWAHATI: The Leader of Opposition, ALA (Assam Legislative Assembly), Debabrata Saikia, on Friday lodged a complaint against Bollywood actress Kangana Ranawat for her degrading remarks about the Indian National Freedom Movement at the Dispur Police Station. Saikia said in his complaint, "I would like to bring to your attention that Kangana Ranaut, a Bollywood actress as a guest speaker on the 'Times Now Summit-2021' celebrating India after 75 years of Independence, recently made degrading remarks about the Indian National Freedom Movement in order to serve her vested interest in the garb of expressing her mind, Her remarks have been broadcasted all over media platforms and in the said speech, she directly insults the Father of our Nation and the sacrifices of our great freedom fighters.

"India emerged as a nation out of a conglomeration of British-occupied provinces on 15th August 1947. The freedom was achieved at a cost of a national movement of almost 200 years. Mahatma Gandhi, Bhagat Singh, Rani Laxmi Bai, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Jawaharlal Nehru and a lot of other great figures spearheaded this movement, and at the cost of their lives liberated the Nation.

"Assam was also a torchbearer in the freedom movement as Gomdhar Konwar, Kanaklata, Kushal Konwar and other doyens paid with their lives for such a movement. In her remarks, Ranaut disentitled the collective freedom struggles, sacrifices and the pain of millions of Indians by calling a centuries-long fight for freedom a 'bheekh'. "This is not the first time she has spewed hatred and attempted to divide people over inflammatory speech and certainly won't be the last if strict action isn't taken. The undersigned demands a case be registered against her for provoking public and sedition under the Provisions of IPC."
