GUWAHATI: Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBIA) is the biggest airport in Northeast India, and it has received a footfall of nearly 4,80,000 travellers in the month of August. The management has mentioned that this number shows a 31% growth in comparison to the same time frame in the previous year. Also, the highest single-day footfall of passengers for the month was 16933, and the highest single-day air traffic movement was 133, making a sharp increase in the number of people travelling in and out of the state in the past year. The management also informed that the airport had witnessed 3839 flights in the past month, which is also 14% higher than the number of flights at the same time last year.
Also, the top four domestic destinations connected directly to the airport according to the number of passengers travelled are Imphal, Delhi, Kolkata, and Bengaluru, while Singapore and Paro remain the two foreign destinations accessible directly from Guwahati via flight.
With the increasing number of people at the airport in the summer schedule, the management expressed hope regarding the increase in the footfall of passengers at the airport during the winter schedule. It can be noted that September is the last month of the summer schedule of the year, as the winter schedule starts at the beginning of October.
