GUWAHATI: The Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), Assam has demanded 100 per cent job reservation for the youth of Assam.

The LDP, Assam has expressed its deep concern on the exponential high rate of unemployment in Assam and strongly condemned the current State government for its 'total failure' to address it. In a press release issued on Wednesday by the Party National Chairperson Prodyut Bora, State Chairperson HoliramTerang and Assam State President GunaGogoi, the LDP highlighted the serious concern of unemployment in the State. With over 20 lakhs unemployed youth registered in the employment exchanges only. Bora referred to the recent report from Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) which stated that the State's unemployment rate has moved from 0.7 per cent to staggering 11 per cent from the year 2016 to 2020.

Giving reference to the 'Karnataka Employment of Local Candidates in Factories, Shops, Commercial Establishments, Micro, Small, Medium Enterprises and Joint Ventures Bill, 2019' that mandates 75 per cent reservation for locals in various sectors including private sector and 'Andhra Pradesh Employment of Local Candidates in Industries/Factories Bill, 2019' for 70 per cent job reservations for locals, the party leadership has demanded the current BJP ruled government to immediately pass a legislation for providing 100 per cent reservation of jobs - both private and State government for the youths instead of making it a poll issue for 2021.

The party leadership in its statement has given a strong message to the current ruling party of Assam that in case they failed to provide 100 per cent job reservation for the youths then LDP will initiate a State-wide movement to deal with the menace of unemployment issue.
