GUWAHATI: Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) is not going to field any candidate in the Assam Assembly poll, but will continue to work to unite all the non-BJP parties in the State to ensure the defeat of the BJP-led alliance.
"Like majority of Assamese people, Liberal Democratic Party also wants the undemocratic and anti-people BJP to be defeated in this election. We realize that BJP is a strong party and with their vast resources they have almost fully taken over all the four pillars of Indian democracy. In order to defeat such strong party one would need a lot of strength.
"LDP earnestly wants to stop BJP from winning this election. Due to this very reason we wanted all non-BJP or anti-BJP forces to at least come together to a common platform if not join an alliance to defeat such a strong opponent. With that intent LDP leadership was in talks with all the anti-BJP parties and we were hopeful that at some point the anti-BJP forces would come together in the interest of defeating BJP.
"But, looking at the current circumstances we realize that anti-BJP parties joining forces to defeat BJP would not be possible in this Assembly election. There is only a grim chance if at all any of such an alliance.
