GUWAHATI: Major General Ananta Bhuyan, Additional Director General (ADG) NCC, North Eastern Region(NER) interacted with Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Tuesday. He was accompanied by Brigadier JC Talukdar, Group Commander Guwahati Group NCC and Brigadier Ranjit Borthakur (Retd). The Chief Minister complimented the Sainik School authorities and NCC for 22 cadets of Sainik School Goalpara passing the UPSC exam for NDA, Khadakwasla.
Major General Ananta Bhuyan assured the Chief Minister that NCC has 50,000 trained students in Assam and they are fully capable to play a positive role for skill development, social upliftment, community development, participation of cadets in government projects and Nation building etc. The ADG apprised the Chief Minster that there were no students in NCC from Majuli. However, this year, 800 students have been enrolled from Majuli. There are two NCC battalions at Golaghat. In case the Chief Minster desires, one battalion can be relocated to Majuli permanently.
Speaking about the low entry of Army Officers from Assam in Indian Armed Forces, Brigadier Ranjit Borthakur (Retd) apprised the Chief Minister about the need of a coaching institute at Guwahati where not only Indian Army aspirants but also aspirants of Para Military forces, IPS, IAS etc can be trained in the institute. He also apprised the Chief Minster that Sainik School Goalpara needed urgent upgradation, stated a release.
