GUWAHATI: Former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has demanded the Government of India and Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal to make their respective stands clear after the recent outbursts made by NSCN-IM leader Th Muivah on separate flag and constitution for the Nagas.

Addressing a press conference at his official residence at Dispur on Wednesday, Gogoi said, “What’ll Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and the Government at the Centre say now after the recent statements made by Muivah on separate flag and constitution for the Nagas. They even demanded Assam areas. Sonowal and the Centre should make their stands clear.”

Gogoi said that the AGP government of Prafulla Kumar Mahanta had accepted the extension of ceasefire agreement in Assam territory as well, but the Congress government led by him opposed it. “There has been a case on border disputes between Assam and Nagaland pending in the Supreme Court of India. The case is very slow now. It was moving fast when the Congress was in power at Dispur,” Gogoi said.

On the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB), Gogoi said, “The BJP is trying to bring the Bill again. The Bill, if passed, will spell disaster for the Assamese. Now even the AASU (All Assam Students’ Union), AXX (Axam Xahitya Xabha) and the KMSS (the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti) are not that vocal against the Bill. They might have gone for an understanding with the government on the Bill. They’ve still time to take to the streets against the Bill.” When asked on any alliance between the Congress and the AIUDF in the forthcoming Assembly poll in the State, Gogoi said: “Our door is open for all.”
