Man found hanging dead in Machkhowa, Guwahati

GUWAHATI: Mystery surrounds the discovery of a man found hanging dead at a paper dump yard in the city’s Machkhowa area on Saturday morning.

The man, whose identity has been revealed as Afzal Rahman, was found hanging at the dump yard located in the busy market area of Machkhowa, adjacent to the commercial centre of Fancy Bazar.

The Bharalumukh police were informed soon after the man was discovered in a hanging state. They responded to the call and reached the scene immediately and recovered the body for post-mortem.

The cause of the man’s death will be established only after post-mortem is conducted, police said.

However, people living nearby suspect that Afzal might have taken his own life due to family-related issues. Afzal was known to be originally hailing from Fakirganj, a village in South Salmara, under Dhubri District of Assam.

He was staying in a rented accommodation in the Machkhowa area of the city.

The police are conducting further investigation in the case to determine whether there is any foul play involved or if it’s a case of suicide.
