GUWAHATI: Mandaldai MP Dilip Saikia is now one of the eight national general secretaries of the BJP. With this announcement made by the party's national president Jagat Prakash Nadda on Saturday, Saikia is the first leader from Assam to have held this post.

Earlier Saikia held the post of State BJYM (Bharatiya Janata Juva Morcha) president and secretary and general secretary of the State BJP.

Talking to The Sentinel, Saikia said, "I thank national BJP president JP Nadda, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, State Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and State BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Das for the party entrusting me such a big responsibility. Holding this post I can bring the problems of Assam and other States of the Northeast at the national level in the party. I can play my part to strengthen the party in the eight States of the Northeast."

Claiming that the BJP will make it to Dispur again, Saikia said, "In the past four-and-a-half years the BJP government in the State did a lot for all sections of people. This performance will make the people to re-elect the party to make a stable and development-oriented government."

Meanwhile, State BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass congratulated Saikia for his new assignment. "The communication between the State BJP and the central committee of the party will get a boost through Saikia," he said.
