GUWAHATI: The spurt in prices of onion, potato and other vegetables has led the State government to deploy market watchdogs to monitor prices of all vegetables in Guwahati.
The meeting chaired by Food and Civil Supplies Minister PhaniBhushanChoudhury to this effect was attended by Kamrup (M) DC BiswajitPegu, top officials of Food and Civil Supplies, GMC (Guwahati Municipal Corporation), Agricultural Marketing Board, Guwahati Police Commissionerate and representatives of various traders' unions.
Besides reviewing both wholesale and retail prices of potato, onion and other vegetables and mustard oil in Guwahati, the meeting decided to form a task force. The task force is supposed to monitor market prices of vegetables, including that of onion and potato every day. The meeting took a decision that various wholesale markets in Guwahati will have to adhere to the wholesale rates of vegetables of the market at Pamohi. It has also decided that retailers will have to sell onion and potato only at Rs 6 more than wholesale rates per kg.
The Minister has asked the departments concerned to monitor the market rates regularly. He has also asked the Kamrup (M) Deputy Commissioner to announce both wholesale and retail rates of vegetables daily.
