GUWAHATI: Greater Guwahati Central Me-Dam-Me-Phi Ujjapon Committee kicked off the celebration for the festival in Notboma on Friday.

The committee celebrates the festival every year and this year the "maidam tarpan" was offered by a former judge of Gauhati High Court Justice Prabhat Chandra Phukan. Several notable people including former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, Cotton University Professor Ritu Thousan and Dr. Amar Jyoti Choudhury also attended the event. Me-Dam-Me-Phi is the most important Ancestor worship communal festival in the Ahom religion celebrated by the Ahom people on 31 January every year in memory of the departed.
