Mere haircutting will not fetch enough income to run a business: Barbers

GUWAHATI: Barbershops and beauty parlors have reopened in the city after the Assam Government recently relaxed more lockdown norms. But the owners say that providing mere hair trimming services will not be enough to fetch income to run their business as well families.

"We are allowed to provide only hair trimming services and none of the other services that usually part of our regular services. Customers come to us not only for hair cut or trimming. They come to us for shaving, facial, body massage and few other services. If a male customer comes for haircut he will also go for shaving," an owner of barber shop said. He said 50 percent of his income used to come from haircut and trimming and the rest from other services before the lockdown.

"So going the past business equation I will now have to be content with only 50 per cent business. Moreover, many customers come for haircut after two months from their previous cut. The government should at least allow us to offer shaving service," the barber said.

On other hand the owners of ladies beauty parlors say that a very few number of customers are visiting their shops as the government has allowed them to offer only haircut. Hairdressers and other staffs are also mandated to use masks, face cover, gloves and do sanitization frequently. The barbershops, salons and beauty parlors are allowed to reopen for the first time ever since the nationwide lockdown was announced on March 25.
