GUWAHATI: The Pratibandhi Suraksha Sangstha Assam (PSSA) staged a protest on Wednesday, demanding that the Deen Dayal Divyangjan Pension Scheme should be maintained along with other demands.

A march from Six Mile to Dispur that had been joined by hundreds of people was stopped by the police. Later, the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment, through its Additional Secretary, submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister.

In regard to this, Nripen Malakar, talking to the media, stated that their prime motive is opposing the merging of the Deen Dayal Divyangjan Pension Scheme with the Orunodoi Scheme. According to an advertisement published on December 31, 2018, there should be a fair appointment of 513 posts. On December 31, 2017, according to government information, there were 4419 vacant posts in 23 departments; leaving out 863 posts, the rest should be filled through a special recruitment process. Also, the schools for blind students should be provided with a remuneration.
