Methanol Dreaded For Humans: Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL)

GUWAHATI: Methanol, which the killer sulai has been found to contain as per preliminary tests, is notorious for the nervous system. It totally damages the optic nerves, leading to blindness or highly blurred vision. This is what forensic scientists say.

State Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) sources say that samples of viscera (the internal organs in the main cavities of the body, especially those in the abdomen) of the hooch victims have also been collected, apart from sulai samples. Tests are still going on. Samples of laaligur sold in Golaghat and Jorhat districts have also been collected for FSL tests.

FSL scientists also say that even as not prescribed, urea is sometimes used during the fermentation of rice. Urea helps in quick fermentation, and that has a negative impact on human health, damaging the lever slowly but certainly. They, however, say that more tests are needed to ascertain contents of the killer sulai.
