GUWAHATI: The Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department of Assam and the Assam Live Stock and Poultry Corporation Limited have organised the 4th Livestock and Poultry Fair, which was flagged off by the Minister of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary for the Government of Assam, Atul Bora, at the livestock farm playground in Khanapara.
In the inaugural speech, the minister mentioned the growing interest of the youth in this sector, pointed out that many of them have achieved success because of it, and added that there is still a lot of scope in this sector. He said that this can be achieved by using scientific processes and the commercially viable implementation of the same.
Speaking on the occasion, the chairman of the Assam Live Stock and Poultry Corporation, Manoj Saikia, said that one of the main ideas behind this fair is to promote the livestock and poultry sector as a profit-making industry, adding that this event encourages around 10,000 new people every year to join the sector, and as of now, a large number of educated youth have been able to excel in various avenues of this field and successfully establish themselves as entrepreneurs and mentors.
Minister of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department, Sikkim Loknath Sarma, attended the event as a distinguished guest along with MP Guwhati Queen Oja, Rajya Sabha Member Pabitra Margherita, MLA West Guwahati Ramendra Narayan Kalita, and several other dignitaries. In his speech, Loknath Sarma highlighted the importance of the sector in generating employment among the masses. A booklet regarding the event was also unveiled by Atul Bora. It must be noted that a large number of government and private organisations have participated in the event. The minister invited everyone to visit the event. A drawing competition for schoolchildren was also announced to take place at 10 a.m. on January 6 at the event.
