GUWAHATI: Guardian Minister of Kamrup (Metro) district Chandra Mohan Patowary distributed cheques amounting to Rs. 2,50,000 each to 20 women at the Deputy Commissioner's office in the city on Tuesday under the COVID-19 Widow Support Scheme.

Speaking on the occasion, Patowary said that the purpose of the scheme is to empower women who lost their husbands due to the pandemic and to enable them to earn their livelihood through gainful activity. He urged the beneficiaries to remain mentally strong in order to look after their families. Kamrup (M) Deputy Commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha, ADC Munindra Bordoloi and District Transport Officer Gautam Das were present at the cheque distribution programme.
