GUWAHATI: The 2nd edition of the Asom Samabay Mela 2024, organized at the Ganesh Mandir Indoor Stadium Field, was inaugurated on Tuesday by Minister Nandita Gorlosa. The Registrar of the Co-operative Societies, Narayan Konwar, Secretary for Co-operation Rituraj Bora, Joint Secretary Nabajyoti Oja, and several other dignitaries attended this event.

This event was flagged off on January 9 and will continue until January 11. The second edition of the annual event will see the participation of cooperatives from Assam, Gujarat, Sikkim, Nagaland, and other states of the country.

Speaking at the inaugural event, the minister spoke in detail about the various schemes from the central government for the benefit of the cooperative societies and requested that the members take all necessary benefits from these schemes. She also called on the members of cooperative societies to create environmentally sustainable products and entrepreneurial ways of working to innovate new products, adding that these products are in very high demand in the national and international markets. She also mentioned that these organizations look into exploring new markets and exploring new ones. She emphasised the One District, One Product idea so that the export of products can be encouraged.

Delivering the welcome address for the event, Narayan Konwar mentioned the initiatives undertaken by the state government to encourage cooperative societies, adding that events like the ongoing mela create opportunities for exhibitions and sales for such organisations.

It can be noted that alongside the exhibition and sale of products, the event also includes events like quizzes for school and college students, drawing competitions, Diha Naam competitions, panel discussions on topics related to cooperatives, and cultural presentations.
