Minister Pijush Hazarika takes stock of SOP for rehab centres

GUWAHATI: Assam's Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment Pijush Hazarika on Wednesday reviewed the preparation of a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for drug rehabilitation centres at a meeting with departmental officers and the State Anti-Drugs and Prohibition Council's authority.

The Minister had recently announced at a meeting with the owners of drug rehabilitation centres of the city an SOP to be followed by them would be prepared by the Government in three months.

Reviewing the progress, the Minister said that once the SOP is in place, the Government would take strong action against those who do not follow it.

During the meeting, Hazarika also reviewed the new Government drug rehabilitation centres to be operated by the Anti-Drugs and Prohibition Council, and asked the authorities to start the Guwahati centre on October 2 next. At the same time, he also asked the departmental officials to make the other centres - at Golaghat, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Barpeta and Tezpur - ready for opening within one month.
