Assam: Minor Raped and Murdered by One Babul Tumung in Sonapur

GUWAHATI: In a horrifying incident, a 16-year-old girl became a victim of rape and murder in Sonapur in the Kamrup (M) district. The victim hailed from Alenga, Sonapur. The suspect in the rape and murder is being identified as Babul Tumung, who was arrested.

According to a police source, on June 28, the girl went to the Sonapur market, and since then she had been missing. On Friday (June 30), the victim's body was recovered from the Digaru River in Sonapur Pathar.

The accused allegedly committed the crime and disposed of the body in the river. According to the police sources, the accused had confessed that he had committed the crime. The girl was raped at Dhemai Tamul Bagan and murdered with her hair wrapped around her neck.

Meanwhile, the locals gathered at the Sonapur police station and urged that the accused should be given maximum punishment and hanged.
