Uncertainty prevails over mobile theatre shows

GUWAHATI: With improvement in the COVID situation in the State, the government allowed mobile theatres to begin rehearsals. Accordingly, some mobile theatres like Abahan, Itihaas and Bhagyadevi started their rehearsals on September 1. However, it is uncertain when the government will allow mobile theatres to start shows.

State Health Minister Keshab Mahanta had said in the last part of August this year that mobile theatres could start rehearsals following COVID protocol. He, however, had said that the government would decide later on giving permission to mobile theatres to stage shows.

Talking to media persons on Monday, Keshab Mahanta said,"In this regard, mobile theatre owners have already held discussions twice with the Honourable Chief Minister. Everything will depend on the COVID situation. Maybe in the last part of September, the Chief Minister will take a final decision in this regard after another discussion with mobile theatre owners."

After the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, mobile theatres have remained closed. This has affected the livelihood of the people associated with mobile theatres.

Meanwhile, while addressing the gathering as chief guest during the 61st foundation day celebration of Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Guwahati on Monday, State Health Minister Keshab Mahanta said that authorities of medical colleges and hospitals across the State should ensure that common people who come to the medical colleges for treatment should get prompt service. He also stressed that patients and their attendants should not be harassed when they come to medical colleges and hospitals for treatment.
