Monsoon to hit North East by June 10: Weather Forecast

GUWAHATI: With the monsoon is likely to arrive in Kerala around its normal onset date of June 1, weather forecasting officials here have predicted that the southwest monsoon will hit the North East by June 10. The monsoon season begins in NE in the second week of June and lasts till September last or October first week. Weathermen said the arrival of the monsoon is heartening for the region as many of the States here received deficit rain during the pre-monsoon season. It may be mentioned that Assam, Meghalaya and many other parts of the North East recently experienced heavy rainfall. Due to strong southerly wind from the Bay of Bengal to the North-Eastern region at lower tropospheric levels, heavy to very heavy rainfall occurred at isolated places in parts of Assam and Meghalaya till May 28.
